CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY
To keep both your sterling
silver and 14 Kt. gold filled*
jewelry looking good, avoid spraying perfume or hair products onto
the jewelry. You should also avoid getting sun tan lotions or oils,
or any body lotions on the jewelry. (These should be applied
prior to putting on the jewelry.) It should not be worn
in the shower or while exercising.
Storing your jewelry properly
will also help it to maintain
it's luster. Air causes metals to oxidize (turn dark) and this
is easy to prevent by storing it in a small zip lock bag, or wrapped
in tissue. After each wear, a quick wipe with a soft cloth will
remove any oils that may have gotten on it and also fingerprints,
both of which cause the metals to tarnish faster.
Proper care of your jewelry
will insure a lifetime of use.
* What exactly is 14 Kt. G.F.?
14 Kt. G.F. (or 1/20th 14 karat) is made by heat and pressure-bonding a
thin layer
of gold to a brass core. The 1/20 notation refers to the ratio of the 14
karat gold
layer to the brass layer by weight, which is 5%. Karat gold covers the
brass layer, making it tarnish resistant.
Do not confuse gold filled with gold plating, because gold filled has an
actual
layer of karat gold, not a microscopic film. This increases the value of
gold filled jewelry over gold plated jewelry, and allows for the look of solid
14 Kt. gold at a fraction of the price.
I have used 14 Kt. G.F. in my jewelry making for over 25 years,
and have made many a customer a believer in the quality, look
and durability of 14 Kt. G.F.!! |
